Extract from Chili Peppers Can Boost Energy & Help with Weight Loss
Chili peppers contain something called capsaicin which is known to give them their heat. New data presented at the Experimental Biology 2010 meeting in Anaheim, Ca indicated that a non-burning version of capsaicin called dihydrocapsiate (DCT) can also aid weight loss.
In the study, UCLA researchers recruited 34 men and women who were willing to consume a very low-calorie liquid meal replacement product for 28 days. The participants were randomized to receive placebo pills or supplements containing DCT at one of two dosage levels. The study found thatenergy almost doubled in the high-dose DCT group compared to the placebo group. Increases in fat oxidation was also observed, which is evidence that the body was using more fat as fuel.
However, the scientists did note the limitations of their study. They only tested the effects of DCT in response to a single meal, and it is not yet determined how lean people would respond to DCT.
If further studies support DCT’s ability to aid weight loss, we will see quick growth of chilli extracts in the weight management supplement market.
Over 300 million are obese worldwide, according to recent statistics from the International Obesity Task Force. About one-quarter of the US adult population is said to be obese, with rates in Western Europe not far behind.
Studies have also been conducted showing that the capsaicin in chili peppers can relieve pain.
The bottom line: Don’t be afraid to pile on those peppers.

Red Wine - Exercise in a Bottle?
Scientists have known for some time that red wine holds a secret anti-aging ingredient, which they eventually discovered and termed “resveratrol.” They’re still conducting studies on this organic compound to see its true benefits. Recently, a new study published in the FASEB Journal, suggests that resveratrol may prevent the negative effects that spaceflight and un-active lifestyles have on people. The report describes experiments in rats that simulated the weightlessness of spaceflight, during which the group fed resveratrol did not develop insulin resistance or a loss of bone mineral density, as did those who were not fed resveratrol…
Can You Do Without Supplements?
Why Supplement?
Have you eaten 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables today? Even if you have there’s a good chance you didn’t get the nutrients you need from those fruits and vegetables.
In fact, The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that it takes seven cups of today’s spinach to equal the nutrition that a single cup provided in 1960!
“I can do without them, so do I really need to take them?” I have heard this argument more than a dozen times before.
The problem with most people is that they base their health on how they feel. Just because you feel healthy and perfectly fit now, does not mean you do not need supplements.
You invest in your future financially, why wouldn’t you invest in your future health?
