Vitamin D
How much vitamin D should I take?
Start with 2000 IUs a day of Vit D3 and then after a month get a 25-OH Vitamin D blood level test. Almost never do I find the Vitamin D at the targeted value with this level of supplementation and I usually need to increase the supplement level with a patient.
Diet Pills
I have seen so many commercials and advertisements about taking pills that will help you loose weight quicker or cut and tone your body in a matter of weeks or days. I saw some the other day that had to do with the acai berry. My question to you is, what should I do with all this information? Do I need to take supplements? What would you suggest doing? Is taking a good multivitamin good enough? Do you know of a good multivitamin? Please advise. Thanks.
A couple of general rules that your grandmother would have told you:
Rule number one is if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. It’s not likely that some over the counter pill will make you look buff. If it were true some pharmaceutical company would likely have patented it and control it. If you want to lose weight I’m afraid you’ll have to eat better and exercise more. It is a simple equation based on what you put in the tank versus what you burn off.
I think everyone should take a multivitamin. Here comes rule number two. Generally, you get what you pay for. You can buy a multivitamin with a cartoon character on it for five dollars a bottle or you could take what I take which costs about one- hundred fifty dollars for a one month supply of a big tub of powder that you mix daily in water or a beverage. Obviously, I see the value in the expensive product. Others would not. Just get what you can afford. Generally, a good multi-vitamin should be a little more than a dollar a day. We have several in the $40 per month range. Remember that you will get what you pay for.
